Slough Labour have always had a reputation for prioritising the services our residents rely on, and this can be no more evident than with Slough’s Children Centres.
All remain open, we have protected them from £100 million of Tory cuts we have been dealt -unlike our Tory neighbours in Surrey who are in the business of closing all 31 of theirs.
And we are delighted to announce that work on refurbishing two of Slough’s children’s centres – Penn Road and Chalvey – has been completed.
Labour is investing £12million over the next five years into its buildings and facilities which are in need of refurbishment and repair. This includes children’s centres, community buildings, car parks, welfare facilities, allotments and libraries.
Chalvey (which sits on the Montem School site) and Penn Road children’s centres were considered to be of high priority, so work was carried out at these premises first.
Cllr Shabnum Sadiq, cabinet member for education and children, said:
“The refurbishment of the two children’s centres hs made a huge difference to the offer we provide there. The landscaping and upgrade to the garden spaces in particular has created an environment where imaginative play can flourish. I’m really looking forward to seeing other centres getting similar improvements.”
